CHOP Enabling Projects

To support the opening of CHOP’s new Patient Tower, Watson completed approximately 50,000 square feet of enabling renovations across the hospital’s main campus and supporting facilities. This multifaceted program prepared existing departments, clinical spaces, and infrastructure to connect with and support the expanded patient-care environment.

The scope included new and renovated emergency rooms, CICU and inpatient rooms, an ECMO training department, conference rooms, administrative offices, and extensive MEP upgrades. Because the work extended across multiple occupied areas, every phase required detailed coordination with CHOP’s clinical, facilities, and infection-prevention teams.

Construction was carefully sequenced around continuous hospital operations. Shutdowns, temporary conditions, access routes, noise, dust, and life-safety requirements were planned and communicated in advance to protect patients, families, and staff while allowing critical services to remain operational.

More than a collection of individual renovations, these enabling projects created the operational foundation needed for the new Patient Tower to open and function as intended. The work demonstrates Watson’s ability to manage complex, interdependent construction within an active pediatric healthcare environment—where success is measured not only by what is built, but also by how safely and seamlessly patient care continues throughout construction.
