CHOP Wood Decant | 5A ARC Relocations
Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Pediatric Research Center | 3615 Civic Center Boulevard | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
As part of CHOP’s broader Wood Decant program, Watson completed the 5A ARC Relocations within the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Pediatric Research Center. The project transformed existing storage areas into functional office space, creating new accommodations for teams affected by ongoing program relocations across the campus.
The Abramson Pediatric Research Center is one of the major research buildings anchoring CHOP’s Raymond G. Perelman research campus. Work inside this active environment required careful consideration of the researchers, staff, equipment, and programs continuing to operate nearby.
Watson began by coordinating the selective demolition of existing storage areas, followed by the construction and preparation of new offices. Each phase had to account for access, noise, dust, deliveries, building-system connections, and the day-to-day needs of neighboring research operations. Temporary protections and clearly defined work zones helped separate construction activities from occupied areas.
The project schedule was closely aligned with CHOP’s relocation plan. New spaces had to be completed, inspected, and ready for occupancy before affected teams could move. Watson coordinated trades, monitored milestone dates, and addressed field conditions early to reduce downtime and prevent one relocation from delaying the next.
Although the physical scope centered on storage demolition and office construction, the project’s larger purpose was operational continuity. By creating ready-to-use space at the appropriate point in the decant sequence, Watson helped CHOP relocate teams efficiently while allowing research programs to continue with minimal disruption.
The 5A ARC Relocations demonstrate the planning discipline required to execute even targeted renovations within a complex institutional program. Every space must be delivered at the right time, in the right sequence, and ready to support the people who depend on it.
Purpose-built relocation space delivered around the uninterrupted needs of pediatric research.
